Biography

Angela Oliveira Pisco is the Director of Data Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), where she leads efforts at the AIxBio intersection to develop tools and models that advance understanding of disease mechanisms. She holds a BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering and a PhD in Systems Biology. Prior to CZI, Angela was Head of Computational Biology and Machine Learning Omics at insitro, building large-scale datasets and machine learning models to transform target and drug discovery. She also directed the Data Science platform at CZ Biohub San Francisco, contributing to landmark organism-wide cell atlas projects, including Tabula Muris (the first whole mouse cell atlas), Tabula Muris Senis (the first aging cell atlas), and Tabula Sapiens (one of the earliest drafts of the Human Cell Atlas). Angela is also a founder and core member of Open Problems in Single Cell, an open science open source community initiative to advance multimodal data analysis by generating gold-standard datasets and establishing benchmarking frameworks and infrastructure.
